While on the premises, in an online environment, or during activities or events hosted by Cloud Nine College, the following behaviours are prohibited:

DISCRIMINATION

Discrimination occurs when a person, or group of people, is treated less favourably than another person or group, based on a person’s race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other protected classification in accordance with applicable legislation.

HARASSMENT AND BULLYING

Harassment and bullying are repeated and unreasonable behaviours directed towards an individual or group of people that create a risk to health and safety, and/or create a toxic environment. “Repeated behaviours” refers to the persistent nature of the behaviours and can involve a range of behaviours over time. Unreasonable behaviours will be considered to have taken place if a reasonable person, having considered the circumstances, ought to have known that such behaviours was unwelcome. A toxic environment refers to behaviours that intimidates, humiliates, isolates, victimizes, threatens, and/or discriminates against a student or an employee.

VIOLENCE

Violence is any threatened, attempted, or actual conduct that causes or could cause physical injury. It includes any threatening statement or behaviours that gives an individual reasonable cause to believe that s/he may be at risk of harm.

Dispute Resolution Policy

All complaints will be resolved with reference to written Cloud Nine College’s policies, academic regulations, student contract.

Cloud Nine College provides an opportunity for students to resolve disputes of a serious nature and grade appeals in a fair, reasonable and equitable manner. The policy applies to all CNC students who are currently enrolled or were enrolled 6 months prior to the submission of their concern to the Academic Director.

All documentation relating to student complaint must in writing.

The process by which the student complaint will be handled is as follows:

Student shall submit a written complaint to any of the administrative staff (admin@cncvan.com), or to School president (Zarah De Vera, zarah@cncvan.com).

Academic matters should first be brought to the appropriate teacher. If the teacher cannot resolve the matter, it should be brought to the Administrator (Erica Kim, erica@cncvan.com) or the President (Zarah De Vera, zarah@cncvan.com). The Administrator or the President will:

  1. will meet with the student to discuss the concern and conduct whatever inquiries and/or investigations are necessary and appropriate to determine whether the student’s concerns are substantiated in whole or in part.
  2. Following the meeting with the student offer a desired solution in writing.
  3. Once completed, a written response including the course of action to be taken and/or an explanation of the decision will be provided to all involved parties within 30 days after the date on which the student made the complaint. A copy of the written summary will be given to the student, and the original will be placed in the student file.

If a teacher or administrative staff is to be involved in the remedy, the President will be responsible for making the initial determination and may refer the matter to the Director of the College.

The student making a complaint may be represented by an agent or a lawyer.  Cloud Nine College may also be represented by a third party or lawyer.

A student who makes or is otherwise involved in a complaint will not be subject to any form of retaliation by Cloud Nine College at any time.

The written reasons will advise a student, that if the student is dissatisfied with the determination, and has been misled by the institution regarding any significant aspect of that program, the student may file a complaint with the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) (www.privatetraininginstitutions.gov.bc.ca). Complaints must be filed with PTIB within one year of the date a student completes, is dismissed from, or withdraws from the program.

Tuition Refund Policy

Cloud Nine College (“CNC”) Tuition Refund Policy

If a student decides to withdraw from a program, he/she must provide a dated, written, notice of withdrawal to Cloud Nine College. Refunds are calculated according to Cloud Nine College’s Tuition Refund Policy and the date on which the written notice of withdrawal is received will be used to determine any refund owing.

Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
Before program start date, Cloud Nine College receives a notice of withdrawal (applies to all students)
• No later than seven days after student signed the enrolment contract, and
• Before the program start date.		100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fee. Related fees include: administrative fees, application fees, assessment fees, and fees charged for textbooks or other course materials.
• At least 30 days before the later of:
a) The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance (international students)
b) The program start date in the enrolment contract.		Cloud Nine College may retain up to 10% of tuition, to a maximum of $1,000. Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• More than seven days after the student and Cloud Nine College signed the enrolment contract, and
• Less than 30 days before the later of: 
a) The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance (international students)
b) The program start date in the enrolment contract.		Cloud Nine College may retain up to 20% of tuition, to a maximum of $1,300.
Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• After the program start date, and up to and including 10% of instruction hours have been provided.Cloud Nine College may retain up to 30% of tuition.
Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• After the program start date, and after more than 10%, but before 30% of instruction hours, have been provided.Cloud Nine College may retain up to 50% of tuition.
Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
Student does not attend program – “no-show” (applies to all students except those enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education):
• Student does not attend the first 30% of the program.

Cloud Nine College may retain up to 50% of the tuition.
Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
Cloud Nine College receives a refusal of study permit (applies to international students requiring a study permit):
• Before 30% of instruction hours would have been provided, had the student started the program on the later of the following:
a) The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance
b) The program start date in the enrolment contract
• Student has not requested additional Letter(s) of Acceptance.		100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fee.
After the program start date, student withdraws or is dismissed (applies to students enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education):
• Student completed up to 30% of the program.Cloud Nine College may retain up to 30% of the tuition.
Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• Student completed more than 30% but less than 50% of the program (based on evaluation provided to student).Cloud Nine College may retain up to 50% of the tuition.
Cloud Nine College must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
Student enrolled in a program without having met the admission requirements for the program
• If the student did not misrepresent the student’s knowledge or skills when applying for admission and the registrar orders the Cloud Nine College to refund tuition and fees.100% tuition and all related fees, including application fees
Cloud Nine College does not provide a work experience
• The Cloud Nine College fails to provide the work experience within 30 days of the contract end date, unless the registrar determines the Cloud Nine College was prevented from doing so by circumstances beyond its control.100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fees

Cloud Nine College must pay the tuition or fee refund within 30 days after receiving notice of withdrawal or refusal of study permit; providing a notice of dismissal, or the date on which the first 30% of the hours of instruction are provided (no-show).  

Student Code of Conduct

  • Students must comply with all applicable Cloud Nine College policies.
  • Students must treat all students and staff with courtesy, respect, and dignity.
  • Students shall not engage in physically, verbally, emotionally, and sexually abusive, aggressive, threatening, harassing, discriminatory or otherwise offensive behaviour.
  • Students shall not contravene any provision of the Criminal Code of Canada or any other federal, provincial, or municipal statute or regulation.
  • Students shall not steal, misuse, destroy or deface Cloud Nine College property.
  • Public intoxication on campus property is expressly prohibited. Those conditions considered to indicate intoxication include but are not limited to affected manner or disposition, speech, muscular movements, general appearance, or behaviour as apparent to the observer.
  • Behaviour resulting from intoxication or the illegal use of controlled or illicit drugs will incur disciplinary action.
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia and misuse of prescription drugs will be regarded as violations of this policy.
  • Alcohol and other controlled and/or illicit substances possessed or consumed in violation of this policy are subject to confiscation.
  • Students shall not be in possession of weapons, or any other item designed to inflict harm or damage on campus.
  • Students shall comply with directions of college personnel acting in the performance of their duties.
  • Students shall not intentionally or recklessly interfere with normal College activities, including but not limited to, studying, teaching, research, College administration or fire, police, or emergency services.
  • Students shall attend classes as per the Cloud Nine College Attendance Policy.
  • Maintain academic integrity through honest and independent effort as detailed in Cloud Nine College’s Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Policy.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic standing in the program, as detailed in Cloud Nine College’s Academic Progress and Probation Policy.

Students who fail to meet the expected Code of Conduct will be subject to the procedures outlined in the Student Dismissal Policy, which may include immediate dismissal from Cloud Nine College, depending on the severity of the misconduct.

Student Statement of Rights

Cloud Nine College is certified by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

Before enrolling at a certified private training institution, it is important to understand your rights and responsibilities as a student.

You have the right to a student enrolment contract that includes the following information:

  • Fair Treatment: You have the right to be treated fairly and respectfully by the institution.
  • Student Enrollment Contract: You have the right to receive a student enrollment contract that includes:
    • The total tuition and any additional fees for your program.
    • The institution’s refund policy.
    • If your program includes a work experience component, the requirements to participate and the geographic area where it will take place.
    • Whether the program is approved by PTIB or does not require PTIB approval.

Make sure you read the contract carefully before signing. The institution must provide you with a signed copy.

  • Dispute Resolution: You have the right to access the institution’s dispute resolution process and be protected against retaliation for making a complaint.
  • Tuition Refund Claims: You have the right to make a claim to PTIB for a tuition refund if:
    • The institution loses its certification before you complete an approved program.
    • You were misled about a significant aspect of your approved program.

You must file the claim within one year of completing, being dismissed, or withdrawing from the program.

Admission Policy

Cloud Nine College is committed to providing accurate information and guidance to prospective students to ensure they make informed decisions about their program of study. Cloud Nine College’s admission criteria are well publicized and applied consistently.  Entry assessment tools and admission requirements ensure students have the required language competencies (see Language Proficiency Assessment Policy), and the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve program outcomes.  Admission requirements may not be waived by either the student or Cloud Nine College.

To be admitted to Cloud Nine College, prospective students must submit a valid copy of international ID (such as a passport or Driver’s License) along with a signed copy of the application form and must meet specific requirements regarding prior education, English level, prove ability in the basic skills needed for college-level work, and age where applicable.

All applicants must: have secondary school diploma or equivalent* and/or mature student** status.

Meet requirements in language of instruction, English – all applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English ability with their application or prove their English level with Cloud Nine College online written test and speaking interview. Refer to the Language Entry Level requirement for the specific program language entry level requirements.

** Definition of mature students: In British Colombia, mature students are defined as being at least 19 years of age and out of full-time secondary school for at least one year prior to commencement in their program. Grade 12 graduation is not needed (unless specified), but the applicant must satisfy all general and program-specific admission requirements.

Vancouver’s Alcohol Rules: What Students Need to Know

Welcome to the Vancouver area! For students who have just arrived here to study, understanding the local regulations regarding alcohol is an important part of acclimating. In Canada, particularly in British Columbia, alcohol consumption is strictly regulated. Laws dictate age restrictions and guidelines for where alcohol can be consumed, ensuring a safe and responsible drinking environment.

In Vancouver, the legal drinking age is 19 years old. This means only individuals who meet this age requirement can purchase, possess, and consume alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is primarily sold through government-operated liquor stores (such as BC Liquor Stores) and private liquor stores. Some supermarkets also sell alcohol.

If you plan to consume alcohol at bars, restaurants, or other establishments, these places must hold valid liquor licenses. These licenses ensure the legal supply of alcohol and specify serving hours and practices to promote safe and responsible drinking.

Last time I’ve explained how having work experiences helped me find a job after I graduated from college. Today I’m going to share some small tips to help you find a job in Vancouver.

To begin with resume. Did you know professional resume in Canada doesn’t include pictures?! Your resume should be clean, clear, and well-organized. Highlight your work experience, leadership roles, and volunteer activities. Use numbers to support your achievements and showcase your abilities.

Connections are key. Build a strong LinkedIn profile and don’t be afraid to reach out for coffee chats. Networking can lead to referrals, which are invaluable in your job search.

Don’t forget about the resources available at our college. The CNC Co-op Coordinator is here to help you navigate the process of finding your first big girl/boy job after graduation. They can provide guidance on everything from resume writing to interview preparation.
