It was a very valuable experience because I can’t usually go there because it’s a bit of a dangerous area in the historical Japantown. I was glad to learn that there are Japanese-style buildings in Vancouver and that there used to be Japanese people there. It’s moving to think that there used to be a Japanese community there. Even now, there are Japanese language schools and other things, so Japanese culture is still deeply rooted there, and I was able to reaffirm the value of “Japan” remaining in Vancouver. It was a lot of fun to have this experience at the end of the first term.
