Before enrolling at a certified private training institution, it is important to understand your rights and responsibilities as a student.
You have the right to a student enrolment contract that includes the following information:
Fair Treatment: You have the right to be treated fairly and respectfully by the institution.
Student Enrolment Contract: You have the right to receive a student enrolment contract that includes:
- The total tuition and any additional fees for your program.
- The institution’s refund policy.
- If your program includes a work experience component, the requirements to participate and the geographic area where it will take place.
- Whether the program is approved by PTIB or does not require PTIB approval.
Make sure you read the contract carefully before signing. The institution must provide you with a signed copy.
Dispute Resolution: You have the right to access the institution’s dispute resolution process and be protected against retaliation for making a complaint.
Tuition Refund Claims: You have the right to make a claim to PTIB for a tuition refund if:
- The institution loses its certification before you complete an approved program.
- You were misled about a significant aspect of your approved program.
You must file the claim within one year of completing, being dismissed, or withdrawing from the program.
